Fóia Peak
Fóia Peak (Pico da Fóia) – Algarve
Fóia, standing at 902 meters (2,959 feet) above sea level, is the highest point in the Algarve and one of the most breathtaking natural viewpoints in southern Portugal. Located in the Serra de Monchique mountain range, near the village of Monchique, Fóia offers panoramic views that stretch from the rugged inland hills to the shimmering Atlantic coast.
On clear days, visitors can see vast portions of the Algarve, including the towns of Portimão and Lagos, the Atlantic Ocean, and even the plains of the Alentejo to the north. The summit is easily accessible by road, making it a popular spot for both casual tourists and nature enthusiasts.
Fóia is not only known for its views but also for its unique biodiversity. The surrounding area is rich in native vegetation, including chestnut trees, cork oaks, eucalyptus, and rare plant species found only in this part of Portugal. The region is ideal for hiking, cycling, and birdwatching, with several trails leading through scenic forested landscapes.
At the summit, visitors will find a few viewing platforms, information panels, and a café where they can relax and enjoy the spectacular setting. Fóia is a peaceful place that blends natural beauty, geological interest, and a sense of elevation—both physical and spiritual.
